Fish & Chips - A British classic.

An irresistible combination of fresh fish and crispy chips. With cod fillets or any white fish of your choice, and a mix of light and crispy batter, this homemade version is guaranteed to deliver authentic flavours that will transport you to the streets of England.

Ingredients:

  • 4 fresh cod fillets

  • Your choice of frying oil

  • 500 g potatoes

  • Salt and pepper

  • 100 g wheat flour

  • 35 g corn flour

  • 1 beer (can be alcohol-free)

  • Sparkling water

Step by step:

  1. Peel the potatoes and cut them into thick sticks. Boil them in a pot with salted water for five minutes. Drain and place on absorbent paper to dry thoroughly.

  2. Pat the cod fillets dry with paper towels and season them with salt and pepper on both sides.

  3. Mix the wheat and corn flour with the baking powder in a large bowl. Season with a pinch of salt and pepper. Then, add the beer and the sparkling water, stirring constantly until a smooth paste is formed. Set aside in the refrigerator for 30 minutes to 1 hour.

  4. Fry the potatoes in a large pan with plenty of oil until golden brown and crispy.

  5. Remove the potatoes from the oil and drain on paper towels to remove excess oil.

  6. Heat plenty of vegetable oil over medium-high heat in another large frying pan.

  7. Dip each cod fillet into the batter, pressing well to stick to the fish on all sides.

  8. Fry the fillets in the hot oil for about two minutes on each side, or until golden brown and cooked through.

  9. Remove the fillets from the oil and drain on absorbent paper to remove excess fat.

  10. Serve the fillets with the fries. You can also add lemon for an acidic touch.
