Teriyaki salmon - a way to spice up your Christmas menu

If you want to give a twist to your Christmas dishes, try this salmon teriyaki. Inspired by Japanese cuisine, it's a great way to add a touch of freshness to your holiday menu.

Ingredients

  • 4 salmon fillets of about 150g-200g each

  • 4 tablespoons of soy sauce

  • 2 tablespoons of sake

  • 2 tablespoons of mirin

  • 1 tablespoon of brown sugar

  • 2 slices of ginger

  • Olive oil

  • Salt and pepper

  • Sesame seeds or chives for garnish

Preparation

  1. In a bowl, mix the soy sauce, sake, mirin, brown sugar and ginger. This is the homemade teriyaki sauce, which will give a delicious flavour to the salmon.

  2. Place the salmon fillets in the bowl with the sauce and marinate for at least half an hour in the refrigerator.

  3. Preheat the oven to 180ºC and prepare a tray with aluminium foil or parchment paper. Place the salmon fillets on the foil and pour a little of the sauce on top. Bake for about 15 minutes or until the salmon is done.

  4. Meanwhile, put the remaining sauce in a saucepan and heat over medium heat until reduced and thickened.

  5. Serve the salmon with the teriyaki sauce on top and garnish with sesame seeds or chopped chives. You can also serve it with white rice or steamed vegetables.
